To create my pencil drawing of the rocky beach, I went over the whole thing twice. First time to put down all the lines. Second time to darken and add shadows by adding another layer of graphite. This sequence of photos shows its creation, starting with what I was looking at (top left) to the final drawing (bottom right).
I didn’t try to draw the rocks exactly as they were in front of me, but rather created the drawing using information they presented.
