I made this for a C&T Publishing Creative Troupe call-out. I used a blank canvas book (obviously you could sew up your own blank book), two sheets of transfer paper (TAP Transfer Artist Paper which C&T provided for this call-out), and some acrylic paint.
The photos/words from the inside can be downloaded here in .pdf format:
Print each on one sheet of transfer paper, then cut in half before ironing into the canvas book.
To paint the cover, I mixed up some gold-green and golden ochre acrylic with some fabric medium. Not entirely, leaving some lumps to spread out and vary the colour as I painted it. (I put some paper between the pages of the cover and the inside to protect it from paint seeping through.)
After painting the whole area of the colour, I then smeared some paint on the bottom of the plastic mug I’d used to mix up the paint/medium, and printed on the cover with this to create the “coffee-mug stains”. Then some fingerprints of paint, then some print and black for the lettering on the front. When it was all dry, I neatened the lettering up a little with a black fabric pen.
